Don’t mean to sound overly dramatic one this one but this is definitely the end of an era: for the last 14 years Gilles Peterson has been a source of inspiration with his weekly “Worldwide” show on BBC Radio1.
I discovered Gilles through a CD I bought in the late 90’s called “INCredible sounds of…”. The eclectic approach instantly inspired me and would keep being my benchmark for years to come as a young DJ. I still remember printing all the tracklists of shows in 2000, 2001 and trying to hunt down the tracks. (Sometimes very challenging)
So for the last show the whole Brownswood crew and extended friends and the homie Lefto (who shot the tribute video below) descended mob-handed down to BBC Radio 1 for Gilles’ last show on the station. Gilles went out in style, chatting to his producers he worked with on the station as they chose their favourite tracks of their time. Next stop, 3pm, April 7th, on 6Music.
I want to personnaly thank Gilles for being so generous with his musical discoveries and being such an inspiration. I look forward to the next show.

A lot of people dont realize how much impact Gilles Peterson has on music overall. He has shaped the musical experience of so many people directly or indirectly.
Most definitely directly for me!!
I think that the Last BBC Radio 1 “Worldwide Show” was truly amazing. I really enjoyed watching it at home while eating my favorite chips. I know that they would also enjoy watching this great show.
