I know, right? The the album title…the moniker…the album cover (including a shot of Fortunado in “mid-drink” hahaha). My ears contracted themselves in preparation of the next impending disaster, but curiosity levels were high and previous experiences with good music in bad packaging encouraged me to push forward. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised.
Business As Usual is the first track that grabbed my attention with a sample-flip that reminds me of Madlib and a flow (not rhymes, however) similar to that of monsieur Mos Def. Nearly all of my love for this release comes from beat-driven gems while lyrics end up taking a hard back seat. I Wanna Lover is no exception with great use of soulful vocal snippets and I Got You champions one of the craziest bass lines I’ve heard in a while.
Forgotten Treasure? Well, not quite. Hats Off (2007) is much less unremembered than it is simply unknown. Try “Googling” it; the search engine automatically assumes you’ve made a spelling error and when you confirm you haven’t, only a handful of pages come up (few of which actually pertain to the artist in question). Also, it’s hard to call anything that only comes in 128kpbs (even when purchased) a “treasure”, but these beats are so fun I just had to share them.
