One fine morning last spring, bright and early, my friend played this Disco song at full volume across the empty shop we were working in. It was a song I had never heard before but instantly loved and needed to have in my collection. Without even trying, an incredible new Disco track fell into my lap and made my morning so much finer.
From Nigeria, released in 1981, I share with you Oby Onyioha’s Enjoy Your Life. It’s a two-stepping, finger snapping kind of song, complete with classic strings and freedom love themed lyrics. Enjoy Your Life is a real motivational anthem and great vibes for any morning.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find much information on the internet about Oby and her album, I Want To Feel Your Love. I did learn that Google has very few photos of her to offer, other than her album cover and that the record is around 100$ on Discogs. Her song is also featured on two compilations,
Kon and Amir Present Off Track Vol. III: Brooklyn (BBE, 2010) and Brand New Wayo: Funk, Fast Times & Nigerian Boogie Badness 1979-1983 (Comb & Razor Sound, 2011), which I strongly recommend – the album titles alone should be enough to persuade you!
Oby Onyioha’s Enjoy Your Life is a rare find, and I am thankful for my wonderful Disco counterpart/co-worker for sharing this gem that I never knew before.

Keep up the good work! 🙂
Oby only released that album and then went on a 34 year hiatus. She plans to release an album in 2014 and I hope it will be as good. But even if it isn’t, Oby has done Nigeria proud
