I never thought I’d see the day where my friend’s mom makes it to the MIMS front page! Working hard as a hairdresser during the day, she slaves away at sluggish sizzurp-fueled beats after dark, desperately trying to overpower the harmful side-effects from old-lady perm fumes. It’s a hard-knock life, but someone’s gotta do it.
The result? Off-time-yet-on-point MPC goodness. The first few tracks of Autophobia set a detrimental backdrop for Rollrgrrl as her decent into hopelessness is made evident by extremely dark, depressing and demotivating vibes, all averaging under 80 BPM. Even the day-dreaminess of Abuse is met, in contrast, with relentlessly harassing kicks, claps and migraine-inducing alarms. It is a very impressive piece, especially considering it was conceived from a challenge to make something interesting by sampling 5 random records.
Repent is an expertly-arranged beat and is my favorite of the bunch due to it’s sophistication and particularly clean production. Rollrgrrl hits three-in-a-row with Deceit (which incorporates a “Macbook error” sound) and solidifies our interest for future releases. Watch out for new dopeness in the near future!
