Indigo, Green, Brown and Orange might just be the colors you’ll see as you delve into a dreamlike state whilst (IGBO) pulsates deep into your ear drum. How’d they do that you might ask? The frequency they tap into, while intrusive at first, becomes quite pleasing.
IGBO is made up of innovative pair. Benamin, a funked-out NY beat maker and sound engineer, has worked with the likes of Jessie Ware, Mobb Deep, and Azealia Banks. And Saxophonist Sylvester Onyejiaka, aka Sly5thAve, is well known for his impressive covers of songs such as Kendrick Lamar’s “BDKMYV” and Justin Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie” backed by The Club Casa Chamber Orchestra. Making more pop records enjoyable, I can dig it.
The collection of IGBO E.Ps deliver layers of beats & horns funked up & smoothed out sounds perfect for crisp autumn days. “Chant” has an enchanting Quincy Jones-like quality that could stay in rotation till summer. While “Entrance Song” feels whimsically epic, like frolicking through clouds with Care Bears, or something. Or maybe that’s just what I heard, either way, these dudes are dope.
