Forgotten Treasures

Forgotten Treasure: Rhetta Hugues “You’re Doing It With Her” (1968)

If you love dancefloor killing soul music and have a slight preference for female voices then Rhetta Hugues’ “You’re doing it with her”, taken from her 1969 “Re-light my fire” LP, is a gem you should not sleep on anymore.

Thick and groovy bassline, beautiful chorus voices, tight up-tempo Northern soul-like drums, each of these ingredients draw smiling faces on any dancing crowd, whatever the time of the day, the day of the week, the season of the year.

Let’s not forget the subtle lyrics about the universal theme of complicated relationships and love suffering which are written by Jo Armstead, maybe my favorite soul writer (Check her « Stumblin’ Blocks, Steppin’ Stones » tune). Cherry on top of the cake, the song is the musical background of the toprock couple dancing with Jazzy Jes and EZ Mike of the Rock Steady crew, tip for the ones looking for a nice thing to do with their loved ones.
