Montreal’s own multi-talented Fredy V has just dropped his digital single “Ain’t Going Nowhere” via Voyage Funktastique and this funked out ode to perseverance is just the beginning of what’s on the horizon for the vocalist/bass player and his upcoming LP It Takes a Village.
First of all, up and coming producer and talkbox wizard Anomalie’s production is banging. Clearly the synth bass carries the tune, but the claps, bells and drum programming are intricate yet as simple and get down groovy as any funky anthem. The song wastes no time in establishing its catchy grooves, Fredy V’s vocals are carefully layered and mixed just right (the sign of experience), yet the infectious hook immediately grabs your attention. This is the type of song that throws fuel on a dancefloor and is already stuck in my head.
If you know what Fredy V has gone through personally, the song takes on a new meaning, and as a seasoned performer working long hours on tour/stage/studio this song really inspires both himself and anyone who has dream to go out and get it. Seeing an established artist team up with a young producer and have (the soon to be label) Voyage Funktastique release it is a beautiful thing. The level of energy felt in the song is mirrored in the real life collaboration between these inspired individuals, and if the rest of the Lp is as mesmerizing as this we may have a classic on our hands. Modern funk is alive and well and the dancefloor needs more positive upbeat and uplifting trakcs like this one, much like its stuck on repeat in my browser this song “aint going nowehere”!
