Y O K O C H O‘s debut on Ransom Note Records sub-label, Insult To Injury (run by remixer Timothy Clerkin) is a low fidelity, nostalgic tour de force.
Hailing from Antwerp, Belgium, Y O K O C H O has inherited the New Beat mantle and run with it; putting his own, inimitable spin on it! The EP will also be available on cassette tape, where it truly belongs.
Lead single ‘Everyday Diamonds’ is a feel-good summer hit, perfect to lift one’s spirits heavenwards, post-lockdown! ‘Data’ brings us crashing back to earth with some distorted, visceral 303 action, providing a down & dirty antidote to the single.
‘Other Side Of The Mirror’ brings yet more lofi drum machine groove to the table, before we’re drowned in a sea of lush, ambient vintage synthesizers at the breakdown.
‘See You There’ is the perfect way to close out – if robots in the 80’s dreamt of paradise islands, this was to soundtrack to their dreams. Sublime.
