Future Classic: Skygaze ‘Astral Trip Remixes’

In the ever-evolving landscape of electronic music, aural architect Skygaze returns with a compelling offering, building upon his acclaimed 2022 release, the ‘Astral Trip EP’ for Flumo Recordings. This latest installment sees Skygaze and Flumo pushing the boundaries of genre even further, offering a sophisticated fusion of house, broken boogie, and future jazz, brought to life by five brand new reinterpretations from the growing Flumo family.

Skygaze’s sonic palette knows no bounds, effortlessly blending elements of house, techno, broken beat, jazz, ambient, hip hop, jungle, and even esoteric IDM. His diverse sound has earned him praise and support from industry heavyweights such as Mr. Scruff, Simbad, k15, Bandcamp’s Andrew Jervis, and Gilles Peterson. With a growing catalogue of releases across esteemed labels like Guayaba Records, Riverette, Flumo, and Thirty Three Circular, as well as remixes for artists like Ed is Dead and Contours & Yadava, Skygaze continues to captivate audiences with his unique sonic vision.

For the ‘Astral Trip’ remixes, Skygaze enlists the talents of an eclectic lineup of producers, each bringing their own distinct flair to the table. Feted singer, musician, and producer Allysha Joy, known for her work with the 30/70 Collective & LCSM, lends her undeniable vocals to a reimagining of “Night Heat”, infusing the track with a broken beat swing and additional soulful melodies.

Jailed Jamie (aka Skygaze himself) & Lorenzo Soria team up to reshape “Gimme Five” with rough synths and jacking bassline-driven beats, while Divorce From New York injects “Wagwan” with Latin rhythms and high-energy synth lines, giving the track a newfound sense of urgency.

Italian producers Footnote and SofaTalk take a deeper dive into “Minor Mood”, adding retro-infused sound structures in a broken boogie mold, while Barcelona’s Karmasound explores the introspective nature of “City Cathedratics”, finding a delicate balance between broken beat and house.

The result is a diverse yet complementary collection of remixes that promise to ignite dancefloors with their sophisticated grooves. Not only do these remixes showcase Skygaze’s versatility as a producer, but they also highlight his talent for melody and songwriting. With ‘Astral Trip Remixes’, Skygaze and Flumo Recordings add another feather to their cap, further solidifying their status as trailblazers in the electronic music scene.
