An exciting release from talented upcoming DJ and producer and one of our favourite people on the UK scene, Echo Juliet, featuring poet Growing Nai. With an exclusive video from Antonio Roberts.
Following last month’s ‘Eating The Rich (Gold Panda Remix)’ release, on May 23rd Echo Juliet is set to release another reworked version of one of the tracks from her Abandon Reality EP. This time, Echo Juliet has teamed up with Midlands-based poet Growing Nai to revamp her track ‘We Move’. The single’s b-side is a remix of ‘Red Sun’ by London-based Chinese DJ and producer Stella Z.
Growing Nai was born out of Nai’s need to ‘grow’ her circumstances after being left a single mother with complex PTSD following an incredibly abusive relationship. Nai’s poem, ‘Alone’, which she performed on top of Echo Juliet’s ‘We Move’, speaks of her experience of loneliness, and using that loneliness to grow stronger.
Support on BandcampEcho Juliet tells us, “Nai and I were introduced by the brilliant Alex Carr of Amplify Sounds, who asked us to collaborate for Birmingham Festival 23. We had never met before, had no rehearsal and were just thrown together on-stage but it was amazing! I loved Nai’s energy so it has been great to capture it in this collaboration. I love how the message of her poem ‘Alone’ adds a new layer of meaning to ‘We Move'”.
At the end of 2023, Echo Juliet released Abandon Reality, her debut mini-album, via her own label Invisible IDs. The release saw fans and critics drawing comparisons to electronic luminaries like Floating points, Four Tet, Bonobo and Gold Panda, and earned the project early support from tastemakers and DJs including the BBC’s Tom Ravenscroft, Steve Lamacq, Deb Grant, Cerys Matthews and Elizabeth Alker.
