2011 Holiday Gift Guide for Music Nerds

#3: Turntable

If you’re a music lover and you don’t have a turntable make this your new years’ resolution. Buy a turntable and in the new year, buy one record a month and see why everyone makes such a big deal out of the joy of listening to a record on a turntable. My suggestion would be to try to snag a used Technics 1200 off of Craigslist or Ebay. These things last for 20-30 years. Around 300-400$ online if you’re lucky. You’ll also need to buy a phono pre-amp (approx 30$) if you don’t have a DJ mixer. You could also go for a turntable that’s more geared to the “audiophile”, check out the Pro-ject 1.3 RPM below. Very interesting design!

Pro Ject 1.3 RPM – Approx 450$
Used Technics SL-1200 Turntable – Approx 400$

#4: Music tshirts

Hehe, ok this is where I go with some shameless self-promo. Well, I’ve finally managed to get off my ass and put together a store where I can mail some sweet t-shirts (for guys and girls) as well as record bags. Love hearing about people rocking the MIMS t-shirt all over the world. So, get on that! Or better yet, make this a “from you to you” kinda gift. Ok, i’m done with the shameless plug. I swear the rest of this list is not MIMS related! 🙂
