Winter hibernation’s over and I’m glad to be back! Stayed away from the mic on this first show of the year and simply let the music do the talking, so below you’ll find a longer description than usual…bear with me!
If January’s any indication, 2018 should be the year of jazz and it’s reflected on this week’s Balance. Spiritual jazz excursions from Menagerie to kick things off, UK new school of jazz from Ashley Henry with a new LP as well as Joe Armon-Jones from the excellent comp “We Out Here” on Brownswood. LA soul sounds from SiR, some gems from last year I haven’t played yet on the show like the 80’s soul aesthetic stylings of Silver Linings along with the epic Lars Bartkuhn track “Elysium”. First class remixes from K15 and Ron Trent for Colm K and AD Bourke, Henry Wu & Earl Jeffers collab on MCDE, plus a little rewind from the MIMS 10th Anniversary compilation (Igor Jadranin). Coming full circle with more jazz, the wonderful Thandi Ntuli who I discovered while watching She’s Gotta Have It (the Netflix show based on the film) and the latest reissue from Outernational Sounds, something from the conceptual album recorded by Jeff Resnick in 1977 promoting the Rochester Institute of Technology College of Applied Arts(!)… All in all, plenty of stuff to grab your attention, hope you like it!
