Future Classic: Dave Sparkz & Camillo Fritanga “Chills,Trills & Dollarbills”
When it comes to rap music, i’m a sucker for concept records or groups: something like 30 member group, like the Quakers mega group, or a nice well thought out concept like Kingdom of Fear’s “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” theme record.
The very first reason this record caught my attention is because of Melodiesinfonie‘s involvement in the project. The Swiss producer is rapidly becoming one of our favorite producers here at MIMS. While way too many people are obsessing with the trappy 808 sounds, he’s bringing back the jazzy boom bap. Don’t get me wrong, when it’s not done right the jazzy samples thing can be bad too but in Melodiesinfonie’s case it’s just… butter.
So back to the conceptual portion of this record called “Chills, Trills & Dollarbills“. The album cover says it all from the start: You get 46 (!!!) tracks of Cadillac vibes and tons of great little voice skits taken from 70’s Blaxpoitation movies. Sounds like Pete Rock scored a long lost movie that just resurfaced.
Big up to the Boyoom Connective for this one!
