The young South East London producer Ben Hauke takes us on an epic sonic excursion with a four track sampler on the CoOp’s “Coopr8 Records”.
“Movin’ Broke” is driven by crunchy MPC beats laced with obscure and dusty Puerto Rican breaks mashed with Brazilian, and Cuban crate digs delivering Ben’s distinctly raw and grimy London style.
Presented here, the title track glides with a cool Funk tinge interlaced with soundtracky string samples showing off Ben’s skills with lead lines and obvious musical curiosities. It’s a different spin on the foundational Bruk sound that opens doors to styles that might not have been combined before, and it’s something totally unique.
Already turning heads at the legendary CoOp nights for some time, as well as collaborating with the likes of Nubya Garcia and Joe Armon Jones, Ben Hauke stands at the electronic end of London’s new Jazz movement. “Movin’ Broke” is an important EP that’s definitely worth praise, keep your ears and eyes open for this one.
“Movin’ Broke” releases November 30, 2018 on Coopr8
