Exclusive Premiere: Conjunto Papa Upa “Todo Parao – Parte 2”
MIMS is excited to premiere brand new music from our favourite tropical psych outfit, Conjunto Papa Upa, who kindly let us share “Todo Parao – Parte 2” for the very first time.
“Todo Parao” (“Total Shutdown”) is another boundary pushing tropical smasher. The A-side is a humorous dedication to the pandemic, orated over an killer blend of Caribbean rhythms (zouk, cadence, kompás, guaracha) and classic synths. This B-side however, is a deep sea dub, complete with resplendent cowbell(!), timbales and Wurlitzer solos.
Conjunto Papa Upa is the Afro Caribbean centered solo project of Figueira, backed live by some of the best musicians from Amsterdam’s Latin and free jazz scenes. Their debut LP was recently released on legendary American indie label Names You Can Trust. Figueira is also known for his percussive work on tropical psych power trio Fumaça Preta and his regular live incursions with Amsterdam’s Turkish psych folk powerhouse, Altin Gun.
