Finding and sampling rare breaks isn’t the biggest trend in music productions right now. Cool findings (and funny and unusual in this case) are often overlooked. That’s why I was captivated by this recommendation from Franny of Random Recipe (catch their hybrid of hiphop, rock and pop live if you can!)

There is a lot of references to Quebec’s musical culture here; french singing, traditionnal instruments. But non-quebecers should find the beats interesting anyway. In the same tradition of more downtempo-ish stuff like DJ Shadow’s early music or Blockhead.

Max Robin is a towntempo kind of guy. He loves beats. Making them, sampling them, shaking them, baking them, spinning them, radio hosting them,... He releases a beat a day at 30bpm.com. Oh and he's also 1/2 of wobbly affair Pax Kingz with Millimetrik and 1/2 of irreverent french rap duo MC Phylis et Maxime Robin. Oh que oui!
