NYC producer and DJ Doc Delay has always had his own style. His ‘‘Galactic” mix series will give you a taste of where his producer ear is at now and his REM Sleep psych mixes are how I got introduced to him as a DJ. Well, he has finally released an original composition LP on Piecelock70 entitled ”Morgan” and the results are stellar. Inspired by a gloomy walk to his industrial complex studio and the harrowing array of instruments the producer has picked up along the way, the result is a stunning mix of hard hitting drums, warped guitar strums and seemless sampling that crosses all genres. In the words of labelmate DJ Day “I don’t know how he did it, but Delay made loner soul, psych rock and hip hop live together in a crazy, harmonious space. Morgan is gonna blow some minds.”
The stellar packaging and 8 page booklet give a feel for the context in which these gems where recorded, and the sick arrangement simply take you on a solid trip. The record immediately struck me but slowly growed on me with each listen and while every track is different Morgan feels like a smooth ride through bumpy terrain. Picking a favorite track is nearly impossible, but Daytime has had me hooked from the begining while this preview video (below) tells the rest of the story. PL70 does it again, allowing incredibly talented individuals to share their creations with the world and be sure to cop this special album before it sells out.
