Seriously, how amazing has 2014 been for R&B and Soulful music?
This year has featured countless releases which will be remembered as classics in a few years. Taylor McFerrin, D’Angelo (!), Fatima, Diggs Duke, Hiatus Kaiyote to name a few. As if we needed anything more to add to this landmark year in next level soul music we get the absolutely amazing “#5” EP from Jean Grae.
“#5” completely caught me by surprise because i’ve always been a big fan of Jean’s MC-ing but had never heard her go full R&B like this on this project. We played “So Glad It’s Over” on a our radio show also on this EP a little while back but now the full (self-produced) release is here and it’s simply one of the years’ best.
In the new single “Underneathu” she decided to go full-Prince and do the sexy on the floor thing! As she says “full on f**k on the floor type music”.
