Independent Hip-Hop is a tough genre to evolve in especially if you are over the age of 25. Standards, quality and creative arcs are often met head on by the harsh realities of self-promotion/production.
Many have given up but it’s a breath of fresh air when a project like Les Gens d’Airs comes to fruition. Prefaced by the Sous-Estimes EP, Cotola and Mendoza are back with their full length debut release. We see a more lushly produced record here with full on arrangement always impecabbly mastered like the impactful Force Brute or the orchestral Generation Z.
Diversity in the beats has always been a calling card for Cotola who goes from sample heavy (Percer le Silence) to the spaced out synth heavy beats (Future Proche), he even spits a few verses for a very solid showing, a departure for the producer who usually stays behind the decks.
