There is a ton of those beat tapes on the web nowadays. And few of them have a such an ugly cover and a generic title that the one from Jimmy Flamante. What is important though is the beats. Never judge a book by its cover. And in that department, it’s a standout project.
So we’re talking about hip-hop influenced, sampled heavy beats with a touch of electronic elements here and there. Sound familiar? It’s not really a new mix but what is interesting it’s the way it’s done. Hearing those beats, it’s not always clear what is sampled and what is played on a synth from the producer. The only down side for me is that at 13:55 it’s a bit short to give an carry the idea and get into the vision of the producer.
