Armed with a crateful of classics from Blue Note Records’ genre-defining years, Mark de Clive-Lowe has created a live-remix mixtape weaving from jazz to hip hop classics, to underground house and broken beat.
Equal parts jazz musician, composer, DJ and production wizard, MdCL’s live performances are always a treat as he’s been able to erase the lines between genres and eras. Today marks the release of his live-remix mixtape entitled “#bluenoteremixed Vol. 1” which was recorded and improvised in one take using his drum machine, sample pads, rhodes and keyboards on-the-fly.
The project brings new perspective to the music released decades earlier by the likes of Herbie Hancock, Duke Ellington and Donald Byrd, often times re-birthed by samples that we fell in love with through A Tribe Called Quest, J Dilla and others.
The project also features guest appearances from rappers Illa J, John Robinson, Bambu, bass master Pino Palladino, singer Nia Andrews and others.
