Montreal and tropical music have a strange ongoing attraction dynamic. People of many cultures have left records here to be discovered and many of them have formed bands on this soil. (as exposed in this tropical mix featured on MIMS)
However our city also attracts tropical collectors of the highest caliber and no where is this better exemplified than with the Canicule Tropical collective. Reuniting a DJs Phillipe Noel, veteran Kobal and new comer Mano Peluda, this outfit plays out some of the rarest tropical original vinyl presses on the planet. I consider myself a connoisseur of the genre and I can assure you I am not hyperboling in the least when I say they have mastered genres/countries in an almost academic way. If who they attract to this city is any relection of their stature in the tropical vinyl world then the Godfather himself Paulo Superfly (owner of Superfly Records,Paris) coming to spin with Canicule (Event Info)
Mano Peluda‘s Calavera mix is a prime example of the variety, obscurity and quality Canicule Tropicale brings to the tuntables. From Colombia, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Dominican Republic and Montreal this mix is the definition of tropical music at its finest and brings the sunrays to even the coldest parts of the year
