If I’m being totally honest, the so called “beats” movement doesn’t excite me as much as it once did. Maybe it’s a sign I’m getting up there in age, but I’m just not the biggest fan of the drastic turn the scene took since the rise of the trap influence.
But every now and then comes along a project or artist that reminds what I loved about instrumental and experimental beats. Belgium’s Toon Janssens also known as TITLE definitely falls in that category.
He has been active since 2010 (check his back catalogue) but i’m only discovering him now through his recent LP titled “Memories” on the Cosmonostro label, of which I played one track on my latest monthly radio show (link).
Fans of organic, slightly experimental, laid-back beats will love “Memories” which definitely has some shades of other brilliant producers like Photay, Flako, Paul White, etc…
