Since I was a teenager my love for soul music has been growing exponentially. Getting back to where this passion started for me, around 1985 I was listening as usual to my favorite radio station (Couleur3, the Swiss station) and “Is That Enough” from Marvin Gaye came on the air and the room was flooded by the soulful and sensuality.
I had already heard “What’s Going On” but the impact had not been as profound as this moment, I had goosebumps and was fixated by Marvin’s emotional golden voice (the only artist that matched him in my opinion was Johnny Ace). And I didn’t even quite understand the lyrics yet!
Since that day I have accumulated all the albums and 45’s from Marvin I could get my hands on. An out of this world voice taken too soon (and tragically) from us.
